The Brown HBCU Initiative

Program Overview

  • The Office of Institutional Equity and Diversity proposed a capacity-building, information-sharing and experiential initiative which leverages the institutional expertise, experience and rich knowledge-base of Brown University to assist/support the institutional transformation efforts of select Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). The selected institutions include Tougaloo College, (MS) Albany State University (GA), Clark Atlanta University (GA), Dillard University (LA), Morgan State University (MD), and Wilberforce University (OH). The collaboration acknowledges the experience and legacy of the aforementioned HBCUs in educating generations of African American students. These partnerships represent a model of support, collaboration and advocacy between institutions that differ from Brown University.
