Brown-Tougaloo Partnership – Early Identification Program (EIP) in Medicine

Program Overview

  • Formalized in 1964, the Brown University – Tougaloo College Partnership (BTP) is designed to enrich both campuses through student and faculty academic and cultural exchanges, collaborative research ventures, and administrative level engagements. The Early Identification Program (EIP) in Medicine for Tougaloo students started in 1976 as a route of admission to Brown Medical School. Outstanding students committed to a career in medicine are invited to apply for this program. Students spend a semester at Brown before entering into the Medical School. The EIP program is a cooperative program between Brown's Medical School and Providence College, Rhode Island College, the University of Rhode Island, and Tougaloo College. It provides selected students with a place at Brown contingent upon continued academic progress and college graduation. Students identified by their premedical advisor in the sophomore year of college participate in professional development activities and enroll in medical school after receiving their bachelor's degree. Generally, up to two students may be admitted annually from each school.

Program Benefits

  • The Alpert Medical School's Early Identification Program (EIP) in Medicine offers Tougaloo pre-med students a route to apply for early admission. The EIP was responsible for 3% of the MD class of 2023. The program provides fee waivers, MCAT waivers, application support, and targeted recruiting on Tougaloo’s campus. The EIP continues to be a special highlight of the partnership as one of the longest standing active programs between the institutions.
