Through community building, advocacy, and visibility, they honor the diversity of lived experiences and perspectives represented at Brown. Together, they are working to enrich the Brown experience for the entire community.

  • University Rainbow Staff Alliance (URSA) strives to maintain a welcoming and inclusive community for Brown University staff with diverse expressions of gender and sexuality through empowerment, education, and engagement. We recognize that sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression intersect with race, ethnicity, nationality, sex, culture, age, ability, class, faith, and other lived identities. We are committed to promoting equity, holding respect for all people, and advocating for fully inclusive policies and practices through an intersectional and racial justice framework. Vision_Empowerment: We support a network of LGBTQ+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, etc.*) Brown University staff by working towards meaningful engagement (through both group-only and campus-wide events) and aim to meet the needs of our community through collaboration and innovation. Education: We offer guidance surrounding best practices relating to the LGBTQ+ community in the workforce through a variety of professional development opportunities including employee onboarding, webinars, training workshops, and resources. Engagement: We foster collaborative relationships with the greater Brown community in order to promote the welfare and dignity of LGBTQ+ staff, advocate for a fully inclusive working environment, and raise awareness of LGBTQ+ issues across campus.
